User talk:Keybounce

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This blocked user (block log | autoblocks | rangeblocks | unblock | contribs | deleted contribs) has asked to be unblocked, but an administrator has reviewed and declined this request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock request while you are blocked.

Request reason: " Summary: I am a logged-in user, using Tor; the "anonymous proxy" rule is overriding the "user is logged in" permission."

Decline reason: "The IP was blocked as an open proxy. You can edit though: please see Wikipedia:Advice to users using Tor to bypass the Great Firewall for more information."

Please make any further unblock requests by using the {{unblock}} template. However, abuse of the template may result in your talk page being protected.

Details: Sunday 9/3/06 around 6 pm, I was trying to fix some minor grammar and nits on an article. I use "Tor" (tor.eff.org), which is flagged as using an open proxy -- accurate.

However, I am logged in. It's one thing to say anonymous users using open proxies cannot edit. I am pointing out that I am not anonymous, and denied editing.

Worse, when I went to the proxy blocker page, to follow the appeal rules over there, at the top of the page is an indication that this entity has not been responsible for blocking for over a year now.

The contents of my "you are blocked" box is: Your user name or IP address has been blocked from editing. You were blocked by Proxy blocker for the following reason (see our blocking policy): Your IP address has been blocked because it is an open proxy. Please contact your Internet service provider or tech support and inform them of this serious security problem. Your IP address is 128.2.141.33.

Add "|" on the right side of "unblock", then type your reason. --172.193.194.250 01:44, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
So it looks like this: {{Unblock|reasonyouwanttobeunblocked}} and you'll need to copy/paste the box that sez you're blocked, the one that looks like this.--172.193.194.250 01:48, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Ok, done. A summary in the unblock tag, and the details below it. --Keybounce 02:03, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Incidently, the places in the wiki that tell you to use "unblock" need to indicate how it is used, or have a link to the usage of it.

Old: Additional comment: Although I was told to add the {{unblock}} tag to my page, and I did, and also provided information as to why, I'm told "No reason given". Help?

[edit] Additional information on blocking

Attempting to contact the blocking admins by adding to their user:talk page (using the "+" tab) results in a "you are blocked" message.

This makes it very hard to follow the "Contact so-and-so in case of errors" procedure.

Both User:Tim_Starling (from Meta: proxy blocking) and UninvitedCompany (a second blocker that blocks Tor outlinks) have this -- they both want to be notified of problems, yet cannot be.

Meta:proxy blocking:
The feature is still very much in testing. Suggestions and bug reports to en:User:Tim Starling.

(Sorry, could not find an equivalent line for the other page)

[edit] Don't worry

Putting that ublock templete on your page added you to a special category that will alert admins of your problem. Although I will be happy to notify him for you. Uno momento... --172.193.194.250 02:40, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Okey-dokie, he's been informed. Assistance should be here soon. --172.193.194.250 02:44, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Although it seems neither has been editing lately. Hang on a tick, I'll see what I can do... --172.193.194.250 02:46, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Has been brought up on the Admin's noticeboard. --172.193.194.250 02:53, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
