[edit] Politically-motivated edits?
Since Mr. Johnson announced his entry into the Sacramento mayor's race, there seems to have been quite a bit of energy expended on making this article a platform for political mudslinging. I'd just like to remind editors that wikipedia is not a place for any sort of advocacy, political or otherwise. Keep it balanced, please. 68.127.28.198 (talk) 05:41, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Sexual assault allegations
I put in this section because it's topical and timely. Each part is well-sourced and links out to credible news articles or relevant sources. Now it's been deleted wholesale a couple of times; please if you want to change some text or feel it's unbalanced, I'm not going to fuss, but please don't just delete it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tomeslocal (talk • contribs) 18:14, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
- I made some changes since it seemed unbalanced to me... giving, for example, lengthy quotes from the alleged victim, but not mentioning the cited sources' comments that there were questions about her emotional stability, and questions raised about her honesty by people that had known her for years. Quotes from various hostile parties, but nothing from the Chief of Police, and so on. I could have added a couple of paragraphs to give the side of the story that was missing, but then it would have been a very disproportionately large part of the article, so most of what I did was paring down of detail. Let's keep this article balanced and up to BLP standards. 69.108.205.138 (talk) 01:32, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
I added back some of the things that were deleted and left pretty much all of the new content. I think the added stuff from the Chief of Police is especially useful, definately adds balance, but just deleting a whole host of cited material seems unnessesary. --Tomeslocal (talk) 01:55, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
- I notice that you're new here, having never edited anything but this article. With that in mind, please read Wikipedia's neutrality policy. Then you will understand why your edits have been disappearing, and what you need to do to make them better. Poindexter Propellerhead (talk) 02:21, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
- Addendum: having just looked over the last batch of changes, I'm going to go ahead and revert it. I have no problem with the sourcing, but the material included seems to be strictly on one side of the issue, and giving equal coverage to the other side would make the political mud fight a disproportionately large amount of the article (see the policy on undue weight.) [edit] Run-off
He leads but failed to get the majority: On June 4, 2008, Kevin Johnson, who led by 8 percentage points, forced a runoff election for mayor versus the 2-term incumbent. 374 of 378 precincts were reported, and Johnson was ahead of Mayor Heather Fargo 47% to 40%. 5 other candidates split the rest of the vote.Afp.google.com, 3rd-oldest senator wins nomination for 5th term The candidates needed more than 50% to win the election.signonsandiego.com, Former NBA star headed for runoff in Sacramento mayoral race Johnson, by late May, loaned his campaign $ 500,000 and raised $ 490,000, while Fargo raised $ 340,000 despite having started fundraising in 2005.sfgate.com, Incumbent mayor, ex-NBA player headed for runoff--Florentino floro (talk) 09:45, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
