Kerry Finch

The Honourable Kerry Finch is a member of the Tasmanian Legislative Council or upper house in the electoral division of Rosevears. He was first elected on 4 May 2002 narrowly defeating Rick Shegog through the distribution of preferences (see single transferable vote). Prior to this he worked on many radio stations including Launceston 7LA and ABC Radio Launceston. Finch was born in Hobart on the 4 November 1948 and he married in 1979. His interests include sport, theatre, travelling and Tasmania in general.
Finch is among the least conservative of the council's independent members. He voted for the Australian Labor Party's sex industry regulation bill and legislation giving recognition to same-sex unions.
He has advocated for more funding for push bike tracks along the West Tamar and Launceston suburbs. He suggested in his inaugural speech that the Tasmanian Legislative Council needs to play a more active role in state policy and budgeting.
