[edit] Merge with Kentucky General Assembly

Currently, we have four articles, three of them stubs and one a start at best, describing Kentucky's legislature (Kentucky General Assembly, Kentucky House of Representatives, Kentucky Senate, and Legislative Research Commission). Wouldn't it be better to have one good article instead? Acdixon 20:01, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Merge, second discussion

After I merged Kentucky Senate and Kentucky House of Representatives into this article the first time, another editor came back and split them again. I still favor the merged version until the two houses develop significant content. Apparently, User:HiB2Bornot2B agrees. Acdixon 16:21, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

I do in fact agree. I apologize for not stating my reasoning for it, but it doesn't seem that we should have the small stubs of articles when they can be part of the entire Kentucky General Assembly article (as stated by Acdixon as noted in the first discussion regarding the merger of these articles. I can suggest that the seperate articles for the house and senate redirect to the general assembly article. -- Steven Williamson (HiB2Bornot2B) - talk 20:12, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
The problem is that nearly every other state has separate articles for the Legislature, the Upper House and Lower House. Having Kentucky merge them all into one would seem to discourage people from expanding the articles. Most states have lists of the members. That would help expand the pages. I'd like to see consistency among the states. My own preference would be to have a List of current state senators and a List of current Representatives, rather than embedding them in articles. Most of the states with separate articles for their Upper and Lower Houses don't have much beyond those lists anyway. Or, de like Iowa and have Boxes.Flatterworld 05:06, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
Merging the articles is a bad idea. The Kentucky Senate and Kentucky House are very different and have different histories and memberships, and different roles. Further, the Legislative Research Commission is NOT a part of the Kentucky General Assembly. (It cannot be, under the Kentucky Constitution.) Each deserves a separate article. Trying to merge them into one article would result in a long, difficult and unwieldy article on various separate subjects. They merit separate articles.
