Kenneth T. 'Ken' Cuccinelli II is a Republican Senator from Virginia. He currently represents the 37th district in the Virginia State Senate.

Ken Cuccinelli is a small business owner and partner in the law firm Cuccinelli & Day PLLC. Cuccinelli received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Virginia, a J.D. degree from George Mason University School of Law, and a Master's Degree in International Commerce and Policy from George Mason University. Cuccinelli is a member of the Virginia State Bar and the Fairfax Bar Association, he serves as court appointed attorney in hearings for the mentally ill.

The 37th Senatorial District represents the western portion of Fairfax County, VA including Burke, VA and parts of West Springfield and Sully. Cuccinelli has passed 37 pieces of legislation over his tenure in the Virginia State Senate. Cuccinelli sits on the Courts of Justice, Local Government, Rehabilitation and Social Services, and Agriculture and Natural Resources committees. Cuccinelli will finish his third term in office in 2007. In 2005, Democratic Governor Tim Kaine received 55 percent of the vote in his district.
[edit] 2007 Elections
In the 2007 Virginia State Senate elections, Cuccinelli faced a bitter campaign against Democrat Janet Oleszek. As of 7 November 2007, according to unofficial results, Cuccinelli has defeated Oleszek by 92 votes. As of 9 November 2007, the Fairfax Board of Elections declared Cuccinelli the winner. On November 14, Janet Oleszek announced her intention to petition for an official recount. On December 19, the recount was conducted, which determined Cuccinelli the winner by 101 votes. Oleszek conceded to Cuccinelli that same day.[1]

Cuccinelli is exploring a state-wide race for Attorney General.[2] On March 31, 2008, Cuccinelli confirmed that he was running for Attorney General. He is considered to be the leader in the Republican field so far.
