B.S.Yaddyurappa, is the current Chief Minister of Karnataka. He is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Southern State of Karnataka in India. He is the first BJP Chief Minister in Southern part of India. Born on February 27, 1943 in a farmers' family in Bookanakere village of Mandya district to Siddalingappa -Puttatayamma couple, Yeddyurappa made his debut in public life through Jan Sangh which elected him as Shikaripura Taluk President in 1972. His popularity among the masses and the party echelons was evident when he was elected five times to the state assembly since 1983 from Shikaripura assembly constituency in Shimoga district. He subsequently took up the mantle of leadership in Karnataka as its state unit President for two terms. The fledgling BJP party in Karnataka saw its base expanding under the leadership of Yaddyurappa who, through powerful oratorial skills and conviction in his political ideology, was able to break into the citadels of secularists and woo them to the saffron party. He also served the state as a member of the Karnataka legislative council in 2000-04, after he had lost the assembly elections. The saffron leader, who managed to convince his party higher ups to strike a power sharing pact with JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy, turned into a catalyst as he brought both the parties together for the first time. Sworn in as a Deputy Chief Minister, Yaddyurappa nurtured dreams of occupying the the Chief Minister's chair, right from day one. Known as the farmers' leader among the Sangh Parivar, more often he calls himself as 'farmer's son', Yaddyurappa managed to hoist the BJP flag high in Karnataka, on November 12 assuming the office as Chief Minister.
