Kemal Unakıtan is Minister of Finance of Turkey and a Member of Parliament for Istanbul of the ruling AKP.
He was formerly a board member of the Family Finance Group.
In his time as minister of finance he has presided over a number of situations primarily the Treasury's need to raise funds in a time when Turkey has a large national debt and is failing to collect taxes to cover it. Unakıtan has therefore had to
- try to sell forestry land to raise funds for the treasury
- raise fuel duties and other indirect taxation plus
- extra duties and payments such as his "permanent earthquake fund"
