Kellyville Anglican Church

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kellyville Anglican Church (The Parish of St. Stephens) is an Anglican Church located in Sydney's North-western Suburbs, otherwise known as the Hills District.

The Church has had several locations over the years in both Kellyville and Rouse Hill. Up until 2003, the Church was located in Rouse Hill whilst the new Ministry Centre was built in President Road, Kellyville

The Current Rector of the Church is Ross Hathway. Originally from Gunnedah, Ross has served in several positions both in Australia and abroad in England. He was trained at Moore Theological College.

The Associate Minister is currently Anthony Gerber. Anthony grew up in the Western Suburbs of Sydney and was involved with Quakers Hill Anglican Church. In more recent times though, he has been living in Newtown whilst studying at Moore Theological College. Upon completing his training, he was appointed by the Anglican Diocese of Sydney to Kellyville Anglican Church. The 10:30 Congregation, Family Ministries and Baptisms are Anthony's primary responsibility. Anthony is married to Katie.

The Youth Minister is currently Bruce Dickson. Bruce is originally a New Zealander, and the son to an Opera Singer. Prior to coming to Kellyville, he was involved with Epping Baptist Church and Drummoyne Presbyterian Church. He is married to Renee, whom he married at Drummoyne Presbyterian.

Bruce's key responsibilities are the Evening Congregation (Church@7) and the Youth Groups, Junior and Senior Shockwave.

A key encourager of the involvement and strengthening of Leadership within the Church, Bruce takes every opportunity to encourage the Senior Youth Members to be involved with activities like LiT (Leaders in Training) and Launch, Youth Leadership Programs run by Anglican Youthworks, as well as KYLC (The Katoomba Youth Leadership Convention) which is run by Katoomba Christian Conventions.

Kellyville has a reputation for the strength and conviction of the faith of the Youth of the Church, with most of the Senior Youth taking up Leadership Positions either within Kellyville Anglican or within other Churches in the local area. Another example of this can be seen by the fact that at least 10 of the Youth will be confirmed by the Bishop of Western Sydney, Rev. Ivan Lee on the 24th June 2007.

Bruce is a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and this has resulted in him encouraging the Musical Talents of the Youth of the Church. The end result has been that Music is seen as a major part of Church life at Kellyville, and is most visible at Church@7 (The Evening Congregation) where every week at least three individuals playing Guitar are on stage.
