Keith Baldassara is a former Glasgow City Councillor, and a member of the Scottish Socialist Party. Keith has campaigned against the Poll Tax and the Council Tax, led battles to save local facilities, including against the proposed relocation of Lourdes Primary School to make way for a superstore and fought for tenants' rights. He has also played a significant role in the Justice 4 Gordon Gentle Campaign to bring the troops back from Iraq .
He was a close associate of Tommy Sheridan, the SSP's controversial ex-convenor, and was best man at Sheridan's wedding in June 2000. In 2003 Sheridan decided to stand down as a Glasgow city councillor, and Baldassara won Sheridan's old seat for the SSP, ward 59, Pollok. Baldassara gave evidence in Sheridan's defamation action, Sheridan v News International.
In late 2006 he stood down as a member of the SSP executive, and stood for re-election as a Glasgow city councillor in May 2007 but was unsuccessful.
