Kathleen Connell was the California State Controller from 1995 until 2003. Connell, a Democrat, was an unsuccessful candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles in 2001. She is currently President of the Connell Group, an investment advisory firm located in Washington, D.C. Dr. Connell has been an investment banker in New York and Los Angeles and served as a Trustee of CalPERS and CalSTRS for eight years, which together comprise the largest pool of retirement assets in the world.
She teaches International Business and Corporate Governance at the University of California Haas Graduate School of Business and was honored in 2002 by Smart Money magazine as one of the 30 smartest people in investing.
Her book MOVING UP TO MILLIONS: The Life Calculator Guide to Wealth was published by Wiley in September 2007, and her site, www.lifecalculator.net debuted the same month.
Kathleen Connell has a Ph.D. from U.C.L.A. and resides in Washington, DC.
