[edit] Not a "true sarcoma"?

I thought that it was a true sarcoma, which is defined as any tumor arising from mesodermal tissue - which includes blood vesicles. Can anyone clear this up? 24.248.9.162 16:02, 8 May 2007 (UTC)SmallCB

No it's not, and strictly it's not really neoplastic either. I'll bung in, and expand all this later in the article.FelixFelix talk 17:08, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Jewish Men

I have reverted back to my version containing the information that Kaposi's Sarcoma was originally prevalent in elderly Jewish men. This can be referenced to http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000661.htm Mouse Nightshirt 13:41, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] KSHV or HHV-8

I believe that HHV-8 is officially the preferred term and it should be remembered that it also causes Castleman's and Primary Effusion Lymphoma. What do we think about using HHV-8 instead of KSHV?FelixFelix talk 17:08, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Should be Castleman's disease.(people may think Castleman's lymphoma if you do not put the word in there)

[edit] History and Theories

Under Virus Caused "This, the eighth human herpesvirus (HHV-8)—now known as Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV)—has since been found in all KS lesions tested, and is considered the cause of the disease"

According to my med school notes, "HHV-8 is necessary, but not sufficient to cause Kaposi's sarcoma" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.247.179.218 (talk) 00:53, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
