Kaptai is located at 22.5000° N 92.2167° E . It has 12992 units of house hold and total area 259 km².

As of 1991 Bangladesh census^[1], Kaptai has a population of 60185. Males constitute are 57.97% of the population, and females 42.03%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 32352. Kaptai has an average literacy rate of 49.9% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate. ^[2]
