Talk:Kaolin Mushroom Farms

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I really don't find how selling 50 million pounds of mushrooms a year is not notable. Plus, the strike was major news in the surrounding area. Anyone see my point? ''[[User:Kitia|Kitia'']] 23:34, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Being a bulk supplier of something is, unfortunately, not enough to be noted for. Take a look at how the information is presented in Kleenex. There is information on the company, the products, etc. This article doesn't even verify (using an outside source) that this is the real number of mushrooms sold. In addition, Notability is based on more than just one event in a company's history. If the dispute only had a local effect, if the resolution was entirely internal between the company and the workers, then that strike isn't actually notable, nor does it make the Farms notable. If, however, state laws were changed or reinterpreted in light of the resolution, that would be noteworthy. This article links to a cite that makes it very hard to figure out what (if any) changes happened.
There are other things that are of interest about the Farms; this article on them in the New York Times is very interesting and marks a major shift in the industry, as well as a very different way of dealing with issues of smell-based pollution.
You can certainly write a very good article on them; there's a lot of information out there, and I'll be happy to help you if you need some guidance. I'm doing too much myself to write it, but I'll add the page to my watch list, and be happy to give it a chance.
Note to Speedy admin; there is some argument for notability such as the NYT article (though not as the page stands now), and I'm willing to help Kitia get the article in shape, help her find cites, etc., if she wants to work on it. --Thespian 05:41, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
Uh, I'm a he. My friends just call me Kit (pronounced Keet) for some reason nobody knows and I added the -ia. ''[[User:Kitia|Kitia'']] 17:28, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
Understood. I get called 'he' all the time here because, while I haven't hidden my gender, I don't say that I'm female, either. I'm actually certain considering some of the abuse I've gotten that the minds that spew it would be nastier if they realized I was a woman. Either way, there's a bit out there, and you can make a decent article here; just work on it in the next week or two, or else someone will likely nom it again. --Thespian 19:50, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
I would support keeping this article; it looks like one can write a decent stub about a major mushroom producer. --Haemo 08:25, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
I've declined to delete, based on my respect for Haemo's opinion. I suggest the article be expanded to a moderate degree and very carefully sourced. DGG 18:39, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
