The "Kalyani Government Engineering College (KGEC)", established in 1995, is one of the pioneer technical institutions run by the State Government of West Bengal (WB), INDIA. This college is affiliated to All India Council for Technical Education [AICTE] and University Grants Commission (India) [UGC], Government of INDIA). The National Board of Accreditation (NBA), INDIA has accredited three undergraduate disciplines viz. Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) and Mechanical Engineering (ME) run by this college for its academic excellence, outstanding performances and wide industrial acceptance. The college is present running its various undergraduate and postgraduate engineering courses in various engineering disciplines under West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT). Prior to formation of WBUT, all of its courses were running under University of Kalyani (KU). The students of the college are being admitted by West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations (B.Tech. courses), M.Tech. Admission Tests (M.Tech. courses) and West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination MCA (M.C.A. course). Apart from academic courses, the faculty and students of this institution are involved into various Government research projects and Industry sponsored innovations.

The college is located within the University of Kalyani Campus, Kalyani Township, District Nadia, West Bengal. Kalyani is about 53 km. away from the Sealdah Railway station (Eastern Railways) of Kolkata and also connected through Kalyani Highways. The railway station nearest to the College is Kalyani Ghoshpara which is about 2 km. away from the venue.

The Institution, at present, offers the following AICTE approved undergraduate and postgraduate courses:

Engineering undergraduate courses with 8 semester programme leading to Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.):

  • Computer Science & Technology (CST) - 60 seats.
  • Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) - 60 seats.
  • Electrical Engineering (EE) - 60 seats.
  • Information Technology (IT)- 60 seats.
  • Mechanical Engineering (ME)- 60 seats.

Engineering postgraduate courses with 4 semester programme leading to Master of Technology (M.Tech.).

  • Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) - 18 seats.
  • Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) - 18 seats.
  • Production Engineering (PE) - 18 seats.

In addition to above, the Institution also offers 6-semester course in Master of Computer Applications(MCA) with 40 seats.

The college has top grade computational facilities like:

  • Mainframe: IBM AS/400
  • UNIX Servers: SUNBLADE 2500, SUN BLADE 2000 and IBM RS/6000
  • Workstations: IBM Netfinity, IBM e series with Over 100 PCs (PIV, PIII).
  • Compilers: C, C++, VB 6.0, pspice, Prolog, Matlab and JSDK 1.4
  • RDBMS: Oracle 9i on Red Hat Linux and IBM DB2 in AS/400
  • LAN: 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet network which is connected to F/O backbone and Internet.
  • Genetic Algorithm (GA) Laboratory.

Sprawled across the lush green campus of Kalyani University, the college has four boys hostels - Vidyasagar Chhatrabas (VC), Rishi Bankim Chandra Hall (RBC), Raja Rammohan Roy Hall (New Hall), Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy Hall and one girls hostel Pritilata Chhatrinivas. The college is also equipped with an Astronomical Observatory.

In the last few years after its establishment, most of its alumni spread over worldwide top IT and Telecom MNCs like Intel, Cadence, ST Microelectronics, Motorola, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, IBM, Accenture, CTS, Vodafone, GE Capitals to name a few and Indian tier-1 companies like Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Satyam, HCL, Tech Mahindra, Reliance, Tata Elxsi etc. Many students are working in reputed Indian R&D organizations like DRDO, BARC and IISRO. Besides this, some students of this college are also in some prestigious higher-study institutes like [IISC], [IIT], [IIM], [ISI], University of British Columbia, Michigan State University, Oregon State University, Frankfurt University and many more.

The following students have won "Innovative Student Projects Award" for their final year B.Tech. projects from Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE):

  • Souvik Basu, Vinay Khaitan, Sudipta Ghosh and Satish Jaiswal for "Secure Electronic Transaction (SET) Compliant E-Commerce System Design and Implementation" (Year 1999).
  • Saptarshi Mondal, Subhankar Mallick, Pulak Bose and Debabrata Mukherjee for Web-based Multi-tiered Heterogeneous Distributed Office Automation and Decision Support System (Year 2000)
  • Sukanta Das, Sourav Saha, Mrityunjoy Saha and Asif Eqbal for GANANAA: A Bangla Programming Environment (Year 2000).

Sriparna Saha, alumni of this college has won "Google India Women in Engineering Award" (2008).

In August, 2006, this college signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with India's biggest IT software company TCS for academic development of students, faculty members and staff.
