Description
English: Old stone of petrified Kalktuff („Calcarious Tuff") equiv. Travertine, from a near quarry at the Albtrauf. Image shows part of one of the bastions of the castle Hohen Tübingen, which was built in 1606 with this material.
The petrified material is extremely hard and weatherproof. The well visable cavities and impurities - remnents of small debris, scrub and biotic materials - make the sedimentary rock Travertine porous and thus lightweight.
