Kailasapuram is the location of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Tiruchirapalli. It is about 14 km from the town. The public sector High Pressure Boiler Plant of the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited was setup in 1963 for the manufacture of High Pressure Boilers. The plant achieved its full annual capacity to design manufacture and supply high pressure boiler equipment up to 4000 MW in 1984 with boiler unit ratings up to 500 MW.
BHEL, Tiruchi has over the years seen formidable growth in capacity, capability, turnover and profitability. Product diversification has resulted in the development of new products enabling BHEL to absorb modern technologies.
Kailasapuram houses the very cosmopolitan BHEL township, which is part of BHEL's 3000-acre Tiruchirapalli Complex. The well planned township is set amidst a cool and wonderful greenery that has all the modern residential and recreational facilities for the employees of BHEL. This including shopping malls, parks, community centre, club house with swimming pool, hospitals, schools, etc.
The leading schools in the area are [R.S.Krishnan Higher Secondary School], Boiler Plant Higher Secondary School, BHEL Matriculation School, Ramakrishna Middle School and St. Joseph's primary school. Students from these schools are known to have settled all over the world pursuing careers of varied interests.
Kailasapuram also houses one of India's premier business schools, the [Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM)] and the world famous [Welding Research Institute (WRI)].
The Kailasapuram community boasts of people of varied heritage. This multi-cultural and multi-lingual community has garnered a rich cultural environment for the development of very successful citizens of the country.
Kailasapuram is about 5 km from Grand Anaicut also known as "Kallanai", which is one of the oldest man made dams in the world, on the river Cauvery.
Kailasapuram is easily accessible by road, rail and air situated just 14 kilometres from the centre of Tiruchirapalli town on the Tiruchi-Thanjavur highway and a short distance from the Tiruverumbur railway station, the township is well connected by road and rail. Tiruchirapalli also has an airport catering to both domestic and international flights.
