[edit] Frank Nelson Doubleday and William Heinemann
Frank Nelson Doubleday writes:
- We were shocked and horrified on going to his office the next morning to find a notice posted on the door: he had died during the night. It really was an accident; he had fallen on the floor and struck his head, having entangled his foot in a blanket, and no one being there he died from brain congestion. The Memoirs of a Publisher, 214
This seems the very essence of a "freak bedroom accident" to me. Are you objecting to words used to describe the event, or are you saying that Doubleday's account is erroneous? 121a0012 02:18, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
I think that Doubleday's account might not be fully accurate, as the DNB account of Heinemann's inquest reports that he died of a heart attack and not a "brain congestion". Perhaps we should rely on DNB and not Doubleday, who is only reporting what was reported in turn to him. In any case I think that "freak bedroom accident" could be more plainly described: it tends, in these sad days, to indicate sexual misadventure (see Stephen Milligan!).
