[edit] Childhood
An Army Brat, June C. Straight was born in Stuttgart Germany on January 19, 1984. Her mother, Cora Straight, had been stationed in Stuttgart with her twin sister Collette Straight for a couple of years when she became pregnant with June. June's father, Timothy Carter, was also stationed in Stuttgart and wanted nothing to do with the pregnancy or the child. Shortly after June's birth, the trio( June, her mom and aunt) moved back to the States. Throughout her childhood, Straight bounced from state to state and often stayed with her grandmother in Ocean Springs, MS while her mother and aunt were training or on assignment. However, when she was 10, her mother left the military and the two settled in Starkville, MS where June remained until she was 18.

June graduated, with honors, from Starkville High School and earned a full scholarship to the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS. Studying Journalism and Anthropology, June graduated after four years with a BA in the two fields.

In high school, June was chosen to be a teen lobbyist for the Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi, during which time she channeled her energies into gathering support for HB641 a bill that proposed the ban of tobacco products on school property or at school functions. She also earned her Girl Scout Gold Award and was the editor of the high school newspaper, The Jacket Buzz. Once in College, June was awarded a spot in the 2005 ASME internship program, which allowed her to intern at Seventeen Magazine in New York, NY. She was also awarded an academic award from the NPHC for having the highest GPA in her sorority chapter (the Xi Zeta chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated)

June is the mother of Collette Hosahne Crosby, born October 28, 2005 in Oxford's Baptist Memorial Hospital. As of August 2006, June is engaged to Darnell Juan Crosby, a mid-south tattoo artist and entrepreneur.

June is a staff writer for GRACE Magazine in Memphis, TN. GRACE is a lifestyle magazine dedicated to the interests of Memphis women of color.
