Jumpcut.com is a website that provides free video editing and hosting services. The website was launched as a private alpha in January of 2006 and as a public beta on April 4, 2006. Since October 2006 Jumpcut has been owned by Yahoo.[1]

Jumpcut has its offices in San Francisco, California.[1]

The name is derived from the jump cut, a video artifact that results from the splicing together of two separate parts of the same shot, or similar sections from two different shots.

Jumpcut was originally conceived as a b2b site that could be used to upload presentations but since the dawn of high speed internet and Youtube has gone further offering video editing in 2004 in 2006 Yahoo acquired Jumpcut on condition the board and CEO were kept.[citation needed]

JumpCut has several competitors in the business of providing free video uploading, editing and hosting services. These include JayCut of Stockholm, Sweden.[2]
