[edit] Preparations

On June 6, a hurricane watch was issued for Eastern Cuba including Las Tunas, Granma, Santiego de Cuba, Guantanamo, and Holguin. Later, on June 7, the watch was extended to include Matanzas, Villa Clara, Cienfuegos, Sancti Spiritus, Camaguey, and Las Tunas. The watch was further extended over Isle of Youth, Pinar del Rio, La Habana, Ciudad de la Habana, and Holguin. This was later upgraded to a hurricane warning for areas including La Habana and Ciudad de la Habana. However, at 1500 UTC on June 9 all advisories were discontinued.[1]

In anticipation of Dennis, about 200,000 people were evacuated from their homes, all schools were closed, and most flights in the country were suspended or cancelled.[2]
