It is not quite correct that he was a Baker. In the 1841 census his occupation is given as Road Surveyor, in 1851 as Baker and Grocer and in 1861 as Railway Gate Man. See http://www.stevenberry.org/genealogy/getperson.php?personID=I2010&tree=SB1WIP for further information.
