Julie Ann Downs (born October 22, 1982) is a singer-songwriter and musician. Her music is a blend of rock, alternative, pop, and folk.
[edit] Early life
Julie Ann Downs was born in Venice, Florida on October 22, 1982, to parents Gerald, a stock broker and certified financial planner, and Linda Downs, an educator. The second child of the family, she has one sibling: older brother Jeremy, an F-15 pilot for the United States Air Force.
While studying at Port Charlotte High School (1997-1999), Julie participated in Volleyball, Soccer, Cheerleading and Fine Arts. She was President of her class, a National Honor Society member, Legal Explorers club president, a Model UN member, a Student Government representative and a Bright Futures Scholar. She then graduated early and enrolled at the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College in Jupiter, Florida and at 19 received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science the spring of 2002.
[edit] Early career
Having completed her undergraduate studies, Downs took a year off of school to pursue music. She moved to Nashville where she worked at production company Sound Image during the day allowing her the opportunity to interact with music industry veterans as well as to sing around town during evenings and weekends. To get connected, she took various gigs ranging from music video extra to award show seat filler. Eventually, she was given a slot at the country duo Brooks & Dunn audition for background vocalists. She was ultimately hired and elected not to return to school.
She began touring with Brooks & Dunn during the end of the Red Dirt Road Tour at the beginning of 2004. She also toured with the duo on their Deuces Are Wild Tour, the Alan Jackson Brooks & Dunn Tour, the Kenny Chesney Summer Flip-Flop Tour and the Cowboy Town Tour (2004-2008). In 2008, Downs was contracted by Country Music Television to begin a series of webisodes titled "Diary of A Backup Singer" on CMT.com. This series documents her life as a background vocalist as well as her efforts to make it as a singer-songwriter in the industry.
[edit] Solo Endeavors
While Downs has not yet released a solo album, she told CMT that a sampler of her songs and a music video would be made available online June 2008.
