I actually thought an article on danbooru was way overdue...and then I found this -> Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Danbooru

The fact that it's dead now doesn't really help establish notability, unless if we could make a case about how the software spawned...eh, two clones. I didn't do the assessing! I've just been waiting for A Vindication of the Rights of Woman to be assessed (which is currently next in line...) and I've been looking after the somewhat related Maria-sama ga Miteru. So my reasons are perhaps a little selfish, but I do wish you luck regardless. You can look at Serial Experiments Lain and Excel Saga for examples of what a reception section should look like. This should work. Uses if conditionals. "|" within the #if statements are replaced with {{!}} because of some weird technical limitation, but other than that it's like this:

Original Kanon

Thanks. Nice to find one that actually has seeds. I never did really like torrents too much, as I'm always looking for obscure shit that nobody every seems to seed for more than a week or so. Visual novels are some of the hardest to catch it seems, which of course makes working in its project rather difficult and I'm sure you're aware why importing them would be a pain ($70-80 for a new release? Never). I don't suppose you've had many leads there? I plan on getting one of the PS2 budget priced ports (probably Kanon, not many options really) sometime, but $35 is still a lot to pay for a visual novel... At least I do own one legally now though, First Kiss Story for the PS1. It's kinda got that bad, early 90s anime style to it though. Can't really tell from the boxart though, I need to find a screenshot for it. Damnit, I'm rambling. But yeah, where do we stand in being able to move the Visual Novel project forward? Yeah, I was able to obtain Shuffle! (found a torrent), but I got stuck because I never was able to get Tick! Tack! or Really? Really! (and thus, don't really know how the hell the storyline goes in them.) You're right in that we're able to get some visual novel articles up to GA class without playing them, but so far, we've only been doing those which also have an popular anime adaptation, which obviously makes things a lot easier to figure out. Half of the reason I knew what was going on in the Shuffle! game was because it had also happened in the anime (but not always). I'm pretty sure that PC games don't have any sort of region lock to them, but never tried it so I'm not 100%. I was actually also able to get Fate/stay night as well, but it's a bunch of text and no voice acting, so it's not very fun to go through (plus you can actually die). If you're getting games for PSP, you might think about getting Snow Portable [1] which gets released in April 26. I'd get it, but there's no PS2 re-release for it. Our decently priced (and still good) options for the PS2 are pretty much limited to games with a 'Best' tag here. Interlude also got a 'Best' release [2].--SeizureDog 10:53, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

You're forgetting about an important effect having a popular anime has though: English speaking fans. The reason you're able to even find information on the visual novels they're adapted from is because fans who want to know everything about the series start to dig it up. Finding information on say, Utawarerumono might be feasible, but trying to get info for White Album is going to be a hell of a lot harder. Also, I so hate these overly simple names like Air and Shuffle! Those series are so damn hard to run searches for sometimes (and White Album certainly wouldn't be any better).--SeizureDog 11:21, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

In any case, information on plot and characters never was what kept manga and anime articles from being GA, it's a lack of everything else. We still need to figure out how to get better references for the technical stuff. And our "Critical responce" sections still suck. I'm not even sure if any English review site is truly reputable enough to include, since we're really pretty much just citing blogs (though it's the best we've got atm). So for nice printed reviews, we're just left with Famitsu, who only review the ports and certainly aren't focused on the genre at all (besides which, we can't find scans to see what they actually say about the games). I think what we really need to do is get connections with our Japanese friends on their Wikipedia and see if anyone has some eroge focused magazines (like Push!!) they can help us out with. I'd like to import such a magazine sometime, but that's a very, very, narrow market and I've had little luck in finding sellers. --SeizureDog 11:57, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Yatta! Check it out, something better than the Getchu references we've been using: National sales rankings for PC games in Japan (and yes, they actually do differ from Getchu's rankings). The original Kanon releases are too early, but the 2004 PC edition had a #16 debut and the all-ages 2005 version had a #42 debut. Planetarian

What are you talking about? There's clearly "Setting" and "Characters" sections right there. There's not really to say much in the way of themes without being OR. But anyways, I'll probably work on the article sometime and bring it up to standard. Being short and having an English translation should make the in-universe part a breeze. I see. Confusing grammar there. Anyways, there's really not much of a theme to Planetarian, except obviously the whole star thing. It's actually not really long enough to build any themes. Of course, I could act like I'm writting an essay for English and be like "Planetarian has themes of loss and living in the past" or something. I dunno, I should just play it again. It's so damn sad though... Oh yeah, and you can play a kenetic novel, just like you can play a movie or a (recorded) song. Shuffle!

• Well it is going to be hard, but I figure I might as well give it a shot. What convinced me to try is that I've finally found staff interviews, and so can actually get some information on the development of the game (including why it's called Shuffle! in the first place).
• I removed the critical responce section because not having the section is better than having a weak one. I'm get the feeling that I'm never going to be able to find a reliable, Japanese review to use for the PC version of the game so I might as well give it up.
• Since when do language icons go at the end of the link? I've always seen them come first.
• I don't see why the "Sales ranking charts" would qualify as "too listy", it's pretty short, and articles on albums have similar charts. Also, it really sucked when it was in prose form, which is why I converted it in the first place.
• You make somewhat of a good point about a Setting section, but there's not much to say about it. It's modern Japan, with devils and gods, whose realms are never even visited in the game.--SeizureDog 04:18, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I was only able to find them in art books. Flowers are actually hardly ever shown in the town, I don't know where you got that idea. I am quite sure that the use of sunflowers in the opening credits (for both the game and anime) signifies romance (I think sunflowers are like roses to the Japanese) but of course, I can't find a cite for that. It's weird that despite how tied in flowers are to the characters, they never play an important role in the plot. Sort of like how everything in Kanon is based around snow (ever notice the yuki (雪; snow) in Nayuki?), but never actually is important to the plot. At least I do have cites to make for the individual characters' flowers now. (I'm not sure how dead leaves implies being "romantic" though...the Japanese are odd.--SeizureDog 04:46, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Wow, that "I love to sing songs" comment just struck me as incredibly random. Oh, btw, Kanon 2002 sucks. It's amazing how much difference there is between the two adaptations considering they have the same source material and (almost) the same cast. Somehow, even the voice acting sucks more in the 2002 version, and I can't figure out how that could be. Granted, Tomokazu Sugita is my favorite male seiyuu, so that helped, but I'm not sure what everyone elses' problem was. Of course, the bigger budget helped, but too bad we've got nothing to source for that. It would be nice to know how much more money was spent on the remake.--SeizureDog 06:29, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, it makes me wonder how good the visual novel actually is. After all, same voice actors and same art style (god I hate that large chin style). "Adaquate for the times" is an odd way to put it, seeing how it's only 4 years older (though it looks like it could have been made in the '80s). Who the hell remakes anything (in the same medium) in less than five years anyways? I swear it's the first time I've ever heard of anything being remade so quickly. I just used DAEMON Tools for Shuffle! and the like. How's Shuffle! not to your tastes? Just mostly into the sad-girl stuff? There's this one part in Shuffle! that just kills me every freaking time I hear it. It's the part in Asa's path where Kaede accepts that Rin is in love with Asa instead but asks her to be able to keep on watching him. It's a shame that they completely screwed it up in the anime, as it's so powerful in the game. Just listen to the ~3 minute exchange. Damn good voice acting T_T. I'm not sure if it's Key that I love or Kyoto Animation. I do like a good depressing story though, I'm so sick of the stereotypical Hollywood happy ending. I do perfer the H versions though, as porn with a plot is so refreshing. Don't like the art style of early Key though (Kanon and Air), so I'd get the all ages versions of those probably, but Shuffle! has some really good scenes. Except for Primula. A pickle

I was reading Navel's copyright FAQ page and realized that there are free use images available. However, those images all have watermarks. The page also says something about how you can use CG images but to "please be modest". It's bugging me because it seems like it's just barely possible that we can make these articles contain free use images (which policy says to strive for), but I'm not quite sure how. The finer points of the FAQ are lost in translation. Of course, we could go all doujin on these articles and create fanart for all of these characters to illustrate them, but I really don't think that's such a good idea. RE:Clannad and stuff

Thanks for the previous torrent for Clannad, but I haven't been able to download it yet. I bum my internet off my neighbors, and I haven't been able to have a stable connection long enough to download it yet. As for if I can translate Japanese: I can, but only extremely slowly, as I have to constantly look up kanji, which is a major pain. So generally, I'm just able to skim the contents until I happen to spot a little bit I know is important, and then very slowly figure out what it says exactly. I was able to figure out that they talk about the naming of Shuffle! as it was one of the few times the title (in English) was mentioned in the interview and I was able to read enough to see the guy was talking about what the word meant and all. Still haven't actually got around to really translating it enough to use in the article yet though. --SeizureDog 02:24, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Fair use image on Image:ながされて、天国 （パラダイス）.png

I've noticed that you have uplaoded the image mentioned above, and being used in Nagasarete Airantou. However, the fact that it is in English Wikipedia means that I (as well as other readers) would be expecting that the title to be in English format. I can't fix this problem for you because images at here cannot be moved like articles do--the actual fix would involve re-uploading the image using a seperate name, then tag the old image for deletion at WP:IFD.

I am unable to do this fix as the uploader would be different and may constitute Plagiarism (credit-stealing) to me, can you please fix it yourself. Much thx. Dengeki Bunko

As far as I know, we only used MediaWorks because there wasn't a Dengeki Bunko Wikipedia page. Now that we have one, it seems strange to link to the corporation rather than the label. The label information is much more useful. Just as most books would say Del Rey instead of Random House, most people would say it was published by Dengeki Bunko rather than MediaWorks...which is just a subdivision of Kadokawa anyway. So what? I don't see any reason to put a link to MediaWorks there, and I do see several good reasons to put Dengeki Bunko there. The Dengeki Bunko article states clearly that it is a division of MediaWorks, so the accuracy is preserved, and the useful information, the list of books they publish and the link to their award, is easily obtained. Additionally, as I said above, this follows precedent - all books on Wikipedia are listed under the label rather than the publishing house. Parasyte for instance, follows the Del Rey vs. Random House labeling mentioned above. Doceirias 09:43, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

I wrote the Dengeki Bunko Prize article. No one is arguing that Dengeki Bunko is not one of MediaWorks publishing labels, so restating that every time and completely ignoring my arguments leaves me at a loss as to how to respond.

I work freelance (and at the moment, I'm not working for them at all) so I only know what they've said on forums - the light novel line has been pushed back to fall so they can try and publicize it better. Macronned article titles

Light novel bits

Most Dengeki Bunko novels are not serialized. Even with Kino no Tabi, only the first volume was, and occasional selected stories along the way. Also, about the Seinen/Shonen thing - we need to figure out a way to be consistent with that. I maintain that the terms aren't used with light novels at all, but the discussion about that topic on the project talk page didn't really get anywhere. User:ChuChu has been putting Shonen on a bunch of Dengeki Bunko light novels, while you seem to have Seinen on a bunch. I'd rather remove them all, or only apply them to the manga adaptations, but there seems to be a lot of resistance to that idea. In which case we should figure out which term we want to incorrectly apply to the line... Doceirias 05:28, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

I've actually never read any of MediaWorks magazines - is Dengeki HP a shonen magazine? That was ChuChu's reasoning...

Higurashi Essay link removal

You removed Higurashi Essay link to Daisuki.com under the pretext there are too many links and it is a fansite.

First, essays will always be labeled as fansites, this is pointles;

Second, the links list the TIPS at animesuki that, worst than a fansite, is a FORUM. The essay was a lot more complete and helpfull for readers.

Thirdly, there is no rule about the length of links as long as they remain usefull.

I have re-added the link while we discuss the proper posture here. Animesuki is a torrent site AND fansite, ANN and Animenfo can fall under the same creteria, and there will never be too much links as long as they are usefull.

The essay at http://www.daisuki.com.br/index.php?acao=estudosv&id=255 is a compilation of animesuki TIPS and HINTS with actual help from the translators from animesuki who did them, it's a lot more complete than the basic TIPS. Caiobrz 22:20, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
