[edit] 1965 suspension
The Baseball Guide says he only lost one turn, not two. On the face of it, it looks like two is correct, but arguably the lineup was juggled to keep his departure impact minimal, pitching on 2 days rest just before the L.A. series. Since the "two" claim is unsourced, I'm going with "one". Looking at Baseball Almanac [1] here's how the Giants' rotation went during that stretch:
- 8/20 Shaw
- 8/21 Bolin
- 8/22 Marichal
- 8/23 Spahn
- 8/24 Shaw
- 8/25 Bolin
- >>>>Marichal under suspension
- 8/26 Herbel (game 1) Perry (game 2)
- 8/27 Spahn
- 8/28 Shaw
- 8/29 Bolin
- 8/30 no game
- >>>>Marichal under suspension
- 8/31 Herbel (game 1) Spahn (game 2)
- 9/1 no game
- 9/2 Marichal (game 1) Shaw (game 2)
- 9/3 Bolin
- 9/4 Herbel
- 9/5 Marichal
- >>>Marichal not allowed on LA road trip
- 9/6 at LA - Spahn
- 9/7 at LA - Shaw
- 9/8 Bolin
- 9/9 Marichal
