[edit] RAE
I don't believe that it is a typo otherwise Bristol [1] has also made the same typo. I remember reading somewhere that it's awarded when a department has scored the top mark in all the RAE's and that it's also called 5** rating. AlexD 15:56, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Hi there. Apologies for butting in - I have Durham University (among others) watchlisted. University research units in England which received two 5* RAE ratings in a row are informally considered 5** or 6* departments by Hefce and are given a bigger slice of public funding as a matter of course. It's not a formal classification and you're probably right to correct to 5*, regardless of what any departmental website says: they're biased, of course. It's explained quite well at this page. — mholland (talk) 20:04, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
