[edit] Borujerdi
About the Ayatollah Borujerdi page,
If you could paraphrase the page a bit, it would save it from any possible markings for deletion based on "copyright violations". Particularly with respect to the external link there. It happened to a page I made once.
But I will also jump in to help and rephrase some stuff myself as well.--Zereshk 00:38, 3 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Persian Corridor
I think it is a very good article and an interesting read. It was the missing main article in Middle East Campaign article. :-) Philip Baird Shearer 13:10, 4 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:Babel for de
Hello, because of one IP edit here I think that it´s you who´s trying to bring Babel to the german Wikipedia with an incomplete Copy of the english version. So could you please stop creating this page in de.wp again after it was speedy deleted? Please accept that the german community doesn´t want pages written in english and that there was little discussion about babel yet (up to now a majority hasn´t seen a need for these tags). Thanks and regards --Bdk 05:12, 13 May 2005 (UTC)
- Hello again and thanks for your quick reaction. I discussed it on the IRC and there were some helpful hands. So please have a look to de:Wikipedia:Babel now - the basis is well done, it´s on a good way (still needs further translation to more languages, of course) :-) I think it would be better/much more helpful if you post such proposals on the village pump before you create Wikipedia:-pages in a foreign language. Don´t worry about the deletion, your intention was good! And the additions to Fort Wayne were fine. Best regards --Bdk 04:59, 20 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Victor Davis Hanson
Thanks alot for the quote. I had the privilege of hearing VDH give a talk at UC Santa Cruz about Culture and the war on terrorism. A very good talk, and quite formatvie to me, as I now have copies of several of his books. Thanks alot of for the citation. Klonimus 20:14, 14 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Homosexual Persian Art?
Seems to me as a woman too.
I also came across that picture labeled as "homosexual art". It was the first time I was hearing such a thing.
But at this time I am not able to verify one way or the other for sure. I will however visit the actual museum in June. And I can verify it for sure then.
The painting belongs to The Reza Abbasi Museum in Tehran. Their website doesnt mention anything about this particular work. [1] The text on the photo says: This work was finished on so and so date of so and so year. Signed, Reza Abbasi.--Zereshk 23:34, 17 May 2005 (UTC)
- I agree. There was one user (User:Haiduc) who was attempting to promote the idea that both Shah Abbas and Reza Abbasi were homosexual pederasts based upon his interpretation of the art of the Isfahan school being 'homosexual' (no historical evidence of this nonsense). I corrected the articles in question, and it's the first time I've ever heard such things as well. I contacted the Reza Abbasi Museum and they too had never heard anything like this. SouthernComfort 02:44, 18 May 2005 (UTC)
Thank you for looking that up. I haven't had time as of late to delve further into Abbasi history because of the Khuzestan articles. But you're right - it's not 'cut-and-dry' at all. One problem is that there's no clear indication whether that painting is really of Shah Abbas or not, and as you've said, if it is supposed to be him, it doesn't necessarily imply anything, and to use that to suggest something about his sexuality is nonsense, IMHO. I've noticed this 'male hand-holding' in Isfahan (I don't think I've observed this anywhere else in Iran - Isfahani culture overall is a world unto itself) on occasion, but from what I've been told it is simply a sign of close friendship. Close, but not that close! :) Thanks again for your help. SouthernComfort 04:37, 18 May 2005 (UTC)
Well, for them to speculate that Abu Nuwas was gay is one thing (since this seems to be widely accepted, though my opinion is that his poetry was more out of rebellion against the religion), but with Shah Abbas, especially considering he had countless wives and mistresses in his harem, and the distinct lack of any evidence (also in regards to Reza Abbasi), I find this incredibly hard to believe. I find it a bit too difficult to trust a site that has such a blatantly pro-gay (for lack of a better term) agenda, similar to my own suspicions about those who would claim that Alexander of Macedon or Abraham Lincoln were gay. What can I say, it's all very strange, at least to me. SouthernComfort 05:15, 18 May 2005 (UTC)

- The fact that the shah had wives was not an obstacle to his having youths as lovers. As Thomas Herbert, an Englishman at Abbas' court writes, he saw "Ganymede boys in vests of gold, rich bespangled turbans, and choice sandals, their curled hair dangling about their shoulders, with rolling eyes and vermilion cheeks." Likewise, the French explorer Jean Chardin (a few years after the end of Abbas I's reign) noted a decrease in population in his time and ascribed it to "First, the unhappy inclination which the Persians have, to commit that abominable sin against nature, with both sexes." Before expressing surprise at mention of bisexual mores in Persia (and all of the Middle East) please look a bit more deeply into these matters. Or if too distasteful, SouthernComfort, please refrain from editing material you are unfamilar with. As for my "interpretations" being nonsense, they are not mine but come from modern mainstream historical studies. Please restore the artwork you removed. Haiduc 03:16, 19 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Khairallah Talfah
Hey, I like this article! I read about this once, catchy title. Eixo 00:35, 20 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Wladyslaw Warnenczyk Gay
Hi there! Of course Wladyslaw Warnenczyk had nothing to do with Dymitriads, he lived some 2 centuries earlier. OTOH, Dlugosz (chronicler) wrote, that many have said, that his death and defeat was result of his practices. What were those "practices" none knows. One hypothesis was his homosexuality. But this is not sure, and if you see someone claiming he was homosexual, you must remember that this is PROBBABLE, not SURE Szopen 06:39, 20 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Pahlavi
Why did you delete my edits as well as the list? If you don't want mention of the Pahlavi dynasty in that article, that's fine, but I believe a disambig page is warranted considering the term 'Pahlavi' is very often used in reference to the dynasty, and that there should be a link at the top of the page to the disambig. SouthernComfort 04:35, 21 May 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks very much. SouthernComfort 05:13, 21 May 2005 (UTC)
That's what I figured you wanted to do - separate the articles and use Pahlavi as the disambig (or something like that). I was going to do that last night, but considering you have been more active in that article than I, and also I didn't want to create any problems for no reason if things were okay as they were. Anyway, I think you have it all pretty much cleared up. By the way, in regards to all your excellent work with the Persian Corridor, I was wondering if a new article dealing with the Polish refugees (those who went on to Europe, those who stayed behind, etc) who went through that ordeal would be appropriate? You know I never even knew about them until you started this article, and I find the story very interesting and similar to the situation with French Jews who were covertly helped by the Iranian government to leave for Iran, rather than to be sent to the camps. I believe that Reza Shah and Hitler had an agreement that Persian Jews living in Europe (I think they were mainly in France) would not be touched, and the foreign ministry (or someone within the ministry) created passports and birth certificates and such for many French Jews. Mind you I'm not totally sure what the details were, or if this connects with the Persian Corridor at all (I'm thinking it doesn't). But interesting nonetheless. [edit] Request
Since you know how to handle polytonic Greek characters, would you please complete your correction of ἡ Καθολική Εκκλησία, by changing to a grave accent at the end of the adjective and by adding a smooth breathing to the noun. Lima 04:21, 24 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Rebetiko
Hi JP, when you next want to move a page, could you check first that there's a consensus to do so on the talk page? Also please remember to move the talk page too. I've moved the above back in the meantime, as a couple of editors weren't happy about it. Many thanks, SlimVirgin (talk) 03:17, May 25, 2005 (UTC)
- I don't know who the post below was originally directed at, but I'm assuming not me, as you mention unintelligible prose. Please don't leave posts like this on my page as though they're for me. Also, there was no reasoning on the discussion page that I could see. If you want to move the page again, argue your case on the talk page, and don't move it unless people either agree with you or fail to respond. SlimVirgin (talk) 04:43, May 25, 2005 (UTC)
The "thief" responds:
- Yes, I moved it - and it should be moved right back. You should have referred to the discussion page for my reasoning (which I'm now going to elaborate on).
- There was no mention of this Hilas Petropoulos anwhere in the page as I found it.
- Contrary to your assertions, I also made some substantial modifications to your - quite frankly - unintelligible prose. User:Mel_Etitis has suggested further changes.
[edit] Restoring your edits
Please note that I restored your changes before you reverted. I'm sorry about this revert war. I am confident that it will end soon. Sunray 06:47, 2005 May 26 (UTC)
- Sorry, I didn't notice. Thanks for letting me know. --Jpbrenna 06:48, 26 May 2005 (UTC)
- So the version I restored is the penultimate one now. Were you going to fix the dates? It would be a nice touch. I am leaving the battle zone for now, but will see you on some of these pages (just editing). Sunray 13:36, 2005 May 26 (UTC)
[edit] Images
Thanks for your message. I've placed the images on Copyvio, and I'm about to remove them from the page until their status is resolved. I'll put another message on the up-loader's Talk page to let him know what's happened. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 08:26, 26 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Peloponnese
The proper thing to do is via Wikipedia:Requested moves. I have put a notice there, so feel free to come back to this in five days. --Henrygb 09:59, 26 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] My handle
Thanks for the comments. I've had a lot of fun with it... it works as a filter if nothing else, separating out those who are versed in jazz from the KennyG fans. I've been in a Cal Tjader mood lately. You? FeloniousMonk 22:56, 27 May 2005 (UTC)
