- Only the medical capabilities are missing from devices carried by people in industrialized nations in the early 21st century.
It could easily be argued that things like the wirelessly-connected continuously-sampling blood glucose wrist monitor and the waistband insulin pump (yes, both these things exist, and the wireless connection is in development now) are trending in the direction hinted at by the Joymaker.
