[edit] Notability, bn.wikipedia and co.nr

I came to this article as part of a link maintenance effort and have 3 comments:

  1. I replaced the external link to bayleaf.co.nr with one to bayleaf.50webs.com. It's the same material, just a different URL. We're replacing links to co.nr with other links; for more details, see meta:Talk:Spam blacklist#700 URL redirection links to clean up.
  2. Even though this article survived an AfD, it still fails to meet the very specific requirements of the "Criteria for notability of people" section of WP:BIO, so I tagged it for notability. Perhaps someone can find a reference to meet the requirements.
  3. I was surprised to see that there appeared to be no similar article on the Bengali Wikipedia (bn.wikipedia.org); if bn.wikipedia editors have not authored an article, might that mean they don't think the subject is notable? --A. B. (talk) 17:13, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
I have removed the template while this discussion is undergoing. You may add it again if you wish. About notability, do you feel that sufficient notability has not been asserted or has not been established? That is, do you feel that the subject is not notable enough to have an article or that it needs references? If it's the latter, I can try to find some. If it's the former, I'll oppose deletion. I don't like the concept of notability (wiki is not paper) and I notice that the notability guidelines are not policy. This article does assert that Joy Basu's plays, movie scripts and soaps have been actually performed and are mainstream. That's notability enough for me. As for bn.wikipedia, to the best of my knowledge there has not been any deletion of this article. It's simply that no one has yet thought of writing it. Loom91 07:35, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
Hi. The issue is references. The article clearly asserts Joy Basu's notability but lacks the independent references required per the Notability Guideline. Can you find them? Thanks. --A. B. (talk) 13:59, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
I think I can find a news-paper review of the movie that mentions JB as script-writer. Reports on the play and the soap were on regional language newspapers with no searchablee online presence, so they may be a little harder to find. But I'll try. Loom91 20:18, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Deleted

This article had several serious problems:

  • It covered a living person but cited no reliable sources for the facts it included.
  • It didn't assert the notability of the subject. It did say "prominent cultural critic" in the lede but this seemed unsupported by anything in the body of the article.
  • It included the names of the family members, which it should not per the section "privacy of names" on WP:BLP. "The presumption in favor of the privacy of family members of articles' subjects and other loosely involved persons without independent notability is correspondingly stronger."

The deletion does not prevent recreation of the article, but any new version needs to address these concerns, especially the first. — Carl (CBM · talk) 12:56, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

I have restored the article and removed the unsourced material per the BLP policy. Please take care that all additions are sourced. — Carl (CBM · talk) 22:15, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
