The journey to work describes the mode used by an individual to travel from home to work, and the time that it takes to do so. This data is collected in travel surveys, and by census every ten years in the United States.
Most developed countries carry out similar surveys to assist with transportation planning. In the United Kingdom, travel to work areas are derived based on information gathered via a census every ten years.
