Journey of Hope

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Journey of Hope is a bicycle ride across the continental United States that is put on by Push America, national fraternity Pi Kappa Phi's official philanthropy. The event's purpose is to raise money and awareness for people with disabilities. The event includes daily visits with different centers for people with disabilities known as "friendship visits."

Bruce Rogers, a Pi Kappa Phi alumnus of Stetson University, began a solo cycling trek across the United States in 1987 to bring more attention to the mission of Push America. In 1988, Jim Karlovec of Bowling Green State University picked up the event and the first team of 21 people accomplished it together. This event soon became known as the Journey of Hope.

Today the Journey of Hope has three routes across the country, and the teams finish their mission together normally in the city of Washington DC.
