[edit] Synopsis

Funshine Bear loves jokes and enjoys making the Care Bears laugh. One day however, Funshine tries to cheer up Grumpy Bear (after his newly built rainbow carousel breaks apart) by telling jokes, which only makes Grumpy feel worse. Grumpy even goes so far as to tell Funshine that if he doesn't understand that cheering up is not making fun of, then Funshine does not belong in Care-A Lot. So Funshine runs away and ends up in Joke-a-lot, where a rat named Sir Funnybone declares him to be the long-lost King of that place. What he doesn't know, though, is that Funnybone is actually using him as part of a plot to gain power. The other Care Bears, of course, miss Funshine and want him to come back to Care-A-Lot where he belongs. Thus Funshine in the end must make a very difficult decision; to come back to his home in Care-A-Lot or remain king of Joke-A-Lot and no longer live with his fellow Care Bears.

[edit] Soundtrack

Care Bears: Journey to Joke-a-lot has a soundtrack featuring all songs from the film and many original songs as well. Songs available only on the soundtrack include "Everyone Loves the Care Bears," "Me and My Amigo" and "Seriously."

[edit] Film references

This movie includes references to the film 2001: A Space Odyssey; throughout the film, the computer Pal refers to the villain Funnybone as "Dave" and then later tells him that she's afraid she can't open the pod bay doors.

[edit] Cast

Len Carlson (from The Raccoons) starred in this film as Philo, one of Sir Funnybone's flies. This marked the first time since the original DiC series that he was involved in the Care Bears franchise, and was his last film performance (he died in January 2006). Along with Carlson, the only other cast members to return from the 1980s series are Susan Roman and Louise Vallance (credited as Stevie Vallance).
