"Joseph Dega (born 1890, Marseille, France - died ???) was the real-life companion and prison-inmate of Henri Charrière (alias Papillon) during [Papillon´s] thirteen-year stay at the French Guiana penitentiary. Dega had been sentenced to fifteen years for money forgery in 1932, though he expected to do only 10, given his "connections". Before setting sail to French Guiana, he struck a friendship with Papillon; because Dega was afraid the other prisoners might murder him for his money, as he was thought to be rich, he paid Papillon to protect him. Dega was portrayed by Dustin Hoffman in the 1973 adaptation of Charrière's autobiography, Papillon. In the movie, his name is Louis instead of Joseph."
This is completely wrong so I will edit for accuracy. --Bobogoat 10:13, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
