I deleted all the accusations of his opponents engaged in racism and racialism as a campaign tactic. Not once did any of the party leaders of either the PRSC or the PLD ever engaged in any racism of any sort (there are prominent blacks in both parties).

The continued rambling about racism seems to me more like someone who just cant admit that he lost fair and square. Balaguer outsmarted him, simple as that.

Oh please, to say that racism wasn't used against him is like saying that Bush never questioned John Kerry's military record. Well, Bush didn't do it but the cronies under his campaign did. To be fair, there were allegations of voter corruption charges against both Peña and Balaguer during the '94 elections. I cleaned up part of the article to provide a more editorial sounding voice. I also added the debacle at the Dominican Concorde in '86 after Majluta was given the candidacy over Peña, which resulted in a divided base for the PRD (and some of the coolest riot footage ever). The previous writing also failed to mention the corruption charges against Jorge Blanco, which were an essential part of the public's discontent with the PRD and support for Balaguer's regaining of the presidency in '86. Personally, I think the '84 riots played a part but I don't have any substantive data to support that thesis. ***3/9/08 philosopher2king —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.105.163.162 (talk) 23:10, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
