General Jose Antonio Mexia--It is my understand that Mexican General Jose Antonio Mexia was still alive as late as the 1870s'. Your site have him listed as born in 1800 and died in 1839.

It is my understanding that he purchased land in the 1870s and parceled it off to ex-slaves, freedmen and poor whites looking to settle the land at that time no known to be oil rich. That land was named Mexia, today Mexia Texas.

I'd hope for someone to check this out.

According to this site, " Mexía was captured and executed by a firing squad" in 1939. And this site, for the town of Mexia, says that the "city's namesake died before a firing squad". Seems like the info here is correct. -- Scientizzle 21:39, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
