José María Merino

José María Merino is a Spanish novelist born in la Coruna, Galicia on March 5, 1941. He is the father of two daughters, María and Ana, both of them university professors. (Ana Merino is also a poet.) He lived for several years in Leon and currently lives in Madrid. Best known for his novels and short stories, he is also a poet and a travel writer.
Notable works include these novels:
- Novela de Andrés Choz (1976, won Premio Novelas y Cuentos)
- Las cróicas mestizas
- La orilla oscura (1985, won Premio de la Critica)
- El centro del aire (1991)
- Las visiones de Lucrecia (1996)
And three collections of short stories:
- Cuentos del reino secreto (1982)
- El viajero perdido (1990)
- Cuentos del Barrio del Refugio (1994)
None of his major works have been published in English at this time.
