Capt Jonathan V Benjamin of the Maratha Light Infantry was born on 23rd May 1981 at Ambala. He is a resident of South India.

He studied at various schools; Air Force School, Adampur to begin with, followed by AF School Jodhpur,Clarence High School,Bangalore; Kendriya Vidyalaya, Uttarlai; Kendriya Vidyalaya, Wellington finishing his Class XII from Kendriya Vidyalaya FRI, Dehra Dun. Thereafter he joined the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla.

The officer is an Aluminus of the 102nd course of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune; and the 112th (Regular) course of the Indian Military Academy, Dehra Dun.
