Jonesboro is a pleasant seaside community on the coast of downeast Maine. The townspeople are currently considering the construction of a regional airport to replace an older, smaller airport in the neighboring town of Machias. Proponents feel an airport might bring much needed economic development to this area. Opponents point out that the current airport in the larger town of Machias has been a net revenue loser for that community. The proposed takeoff pattern puts planes and small jets flying at low altitude over Jonesboro's most populated area including its only elementary school. There is also concern about disruption of sensitive habitat as well as potential pollution of the Beaver Brook smelting area and the Englishmen River watershed which has been designated a focus area of ecological significance by the Natural Areas Assessment Program. As we await the results of the enviromental assessment being shepherded by the FAA, petitions for and against the proposition are in circulation.

I'm not exactly sure what the point is of putting this here. This is a Talk page for discussing actual or proposed changes to the article, not a soapbox, sandbox, or general discussion forum. Also, it's generally expected that Wikipedians, registered or not, sign any comments by adding the four tildes (~~~~). Ripogenus77 21:54, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
