Born in Miami, Florida, December 9th, 1975. JOKES, A/K/A Jorge Yanes is a Cuban American filmmaker most known for creating music videos and his contributions to urban Latin television.
Jokes was first exposed to film making in his early teens while attending a magnet school art program for disadvantaged youths. In those years he began to explore the discipline of writing screenplays as well as performance and camera angles.It was in those years that Jorge (known then as CAM) became a graffiti artist's with particular stance towards making characters and pieces known as "burners".
Jokes attended Miami Dade community college film program, at MDCC, JOKES created the film short FATSACKS, a dark comedy experimental starring J.Bishop. The short inspired a follow up short titled IF JIMMY WAS ABRAHAM AND GOD WALKED WITH HIM sometimes known as ...IF JIMMY. Jokes was offered an opportunity to co-write a low budget indie street film REAL HUSTLA. He eventually managed to also DP and Edit the film, which was nationally distributed straight to video by Maverick entertainment.
Jokes was hired by now defunct Perfect Image Productions to shoot and produce a one hour video show for Telemundo's Latino Youth TV network [1] Mun2. The show titled UPBEAT and was hosted and co-produced by famed South Florida radio personality Felix Sama. Under Jokes' careful attention the show surged in ratings[citation needed] and eventually was spun off into the networks flagship show “The Roof”. The show is credited with being the catapult to putting Latino hip hop and reggaeton on the map[citation needed].
In 2006, Love & Suicide the controversial anti Cuban embargo independent feature film was released in theaters; he served as co editor and music supervisor as well as being part of the creative core of the film[citation needed].
Music video for ¡Mayday! featuring Cee-Lo Green titled Groundhogday, reached the number one spot on youtube.com getting over two million views in just shy of one week[citation needed]. What came to follow was a media frenzy[citation needed] with articles in major publications such as The New York Times, The Miami Herald, and The Miami New Times. It also garnered attention from ABC's World News Tonight, VH1,Fuse, and Mtvu.
JOKES also co-directed with artist T-Pain Send me an Email, an ode to the world of internet social networking and starred myspace queen Tila Tequilla.
