[edit] Welcome!

Hi, Johnbelden, Welcome to Wikipedia!

Welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you enjoy the encyclopaedia and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the simplified ruleset. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ; plus, if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions). There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Also, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page.

[edit] Additional tips

Here are some extra tips to help you get around in Wikipedia:

  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.

[edit] Current open tasks

Here are some tasks you can do:

Good luck.

Welcome to Wikipedia! We could really use your help to create new content, but your recent additions are considered non-notable and have been reverted or removed. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. haz (user talk)e 19:56, 28 February 2006

[edit] Stop vandalizing articles

Please stop adding nonsense to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. Postdlf 18:37, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] John Belden

John Belden has been proposed for deletion. An editor felt this might be an inappropriate autobiography. If you wrote this article about yourself, that isn't a sufficient ground for deletion, however, it might contribute to several other problems (conflict of interest, verifiability) as outlined at WP:AUTO. If you can improve the article to address these concerns, please do so. If you'd like the article moved to your user page, you can do that yourself, or ask a more experienced editor to help you.

If no one objects to the deletion within five days, the article may be deleted without further discussion. NickelShoe 17:39, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Copyright issue with Rick stoddard

Hello. Concerning your contribution, Rick stoddard, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a direct copy from http://www.rickstoddard.com/story.htm. As a copyright violation, Rick stoddard appears to qualify for speedy deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Rick stoddard has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message. If the source is a credible one, please consider rewriting the content and citing the source.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GFDL, you can comment to that effect on Talk:Rick stoddard. If the article has already been deleted, but you have a proper release, you can reenter the content at Rick stoddard, after describing the release on the talk page. [edit] Unspecified source for Image:COT.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:COT.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:54, 12 February 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Royalbroil T : C 13:54, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Possibly unfree Image:COT.jpg

An image that you uploaded or altered, Image:COT.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images because its copyright status is disputed. If the image's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. Please go to its page for more information if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Unfortunately Jayski images do not appear to be compatible with uploading to Wikipedia. This is pasted from the bottom of his page: "Some of these images were 'borrowed' from many other web pages". Uploading images to Wikipedia involves understanding complicated copyright criteria. Basically you can't upload anything that you find on a website (with few exceptions). You need to take the image yourself. Sorry about having to follow through on this image. There already is a good image of the Car of Tomorrow. Royalbroil T : C 05:02, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
