The National Government of Moab was the whimsical name given to the authority of Sir Alec Kirkbride over the town of Kerak in what would become Transjordan, but what was then no man's land after the collapse of the Syrian government under Faisal. Sir Herbert Samuel, the first High Commissioner requested permission from the of Lord Curzon to impose some order in the neighboring area of the Hauran. Kirkbride styled himself the president. His authority did not derive from the British Mandate of Palestine, which did not yet cover the area, but was directly granted from the British government.
