John Devos is a musician in the Seattle music scene whom was born on October 26, 1988 in Seattle, WA. His main focus is drumming, but he also plays bass, guitar, keyboard, and sing. He has been in numerous bands around the Seattle metal scene but his current bands are Funeral Age and Project: Gateway to Oblivion.

[edit] Dead Dreams (2002-2003)

Dead Dreams was his first band back in 2002. He joined in December as a rhythm guitarist, but after technical difficulties with equipment, he was told to play drums. Though the band only performed a couple times at their practice space, they did not do much. They recorded one demo, which to this day only one song entitled "Forget" has been retrieved. In 2003 Devos departed from this band for personal reasons.

The next band he was in, and most known band, was No One Lives. The band was formed just after the departure of Dead Dreams with Devos along side the ex-bassist of Dead Dreams, Brett, as well as their friend Zak on guitar. However, the Zak had his own things he had to do, and decided he couldn't stick around. After his leave, John and Brett searched for another guitarist, only to go back to their guitarist from Dead Dreams, Andy. Thus No One Lives was started for good. They played a few shows with Brett, but he left the band for time constraints. No One Lives fell apart, and the two remaining members went their separate ways.

John went through a few bands before asking around to see what his newest band should be called. He posted a poll on the Seattle Metal Online forum, but accidentally put an extra slot on the poll, so he filled it in as (extra slot, my bad), however, this mistake got the most votes, and the band was formed. John searched for numerous people to be in this joke project, and eventually turned back to his former guitarist, Andy, from the earlier bands, along with the singer from Dead Dreams, Tim. They did one show and a demo, which can not be found, before putting this joke to rest.

[edit] Short stint with Sonata (2005)

John joined up with some friends of his in Sonata after their drummer could not play anymore. However, due to the distance between each other (Sonata lived south of Tacoma while John lived an hour plus North) John decided that he couldn't do it.

[edit] No One Lives (second incarnation)

John along with Andy and Tim restarted No One Lives with a new and fresh vibe. No longer would the music be chaotic, but more understandable. They went through numerous members until they found bassist Dustin, and then a few months later, second guitarist, Sam. They played around the Seattle area almost every month just to get their name out, and that they did. They recorded a demo and a CD, as well as headline a few shows. But due to more personal struggle between everyone, the band had to split up for good this time. Their last show was on March 30, 2006, which was their CD release party.

[edit] Decension (2006-2007)

After the split of No One Lives, John searched for more things to do. His ex guitarist Sam eventually gave him a call and they formed Decension. They had many plans on recording and playing shows with their Meshuggah style influence, but Sam ended up moving back to his home land of California, once again leaving John up in the air.

[edit] Funeral Age (2006-current)

John didn't look much on his own for a new project, and just wanted to give music a rest. But one night he got a message from Seattle Black Metal band, Funeral Age, about him coming in and drumming. At first John was a little wary about this, and declined the offer since he wasn't much of a Black Metal drummer, but after a couple weeks he decided to see if they were still searching, and they were, so John took up the offer. They are currently writing brand new material for an up coming CD which is set to come out in early 2008.

[edit] Solo Career (2006-current)

Before Funeral Age though, he started writing his own material under the band name MindWar. The idea of this band was to get his ideas out and for him to get what he wants to play out. But after his musical styles changed when he started to get more into bands like Faith No More and Rush, he decided to stop the "MindWar" Death Metal project, and go for something a little more free minded. He started the project "Project: Gateway to Oblivion". It is a lot more open to different styles of music instead of constant blast beats, like what was coming of MindWar. Though it hasn't gotten that far, John keeps his head up and pushes forward to get something done.
