Talk:Johnny Nice Painter

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Personally, I feel that the character is meant to have had some sort of trauma in his past, like an awful childhood and following lots of treatment and therapy has taken up painting as a way to relax.

Having just started on my own road to recovery following a long bout of depression, it's interesting to see similarities between the way Higson plays the character and things I've seen and experienced myself.

At the start of the sketches, Johnny is almost bubbling over with enthusiasm for what he's doing, which is a very common scenario with depression sufferers.

But then, as the article states, he only needs that one reminder of his "dark place" to take him back to his previous horrors and he's off again.

In some ways, I can appreciate the sketches on a whole new level now, and even though they often remind me of worse times, I can still laugh at the inane dialoge like;

"We crawl on our knees towards our doom!"

and

"They tap at my window, with tiny pools!"
