[edit] Ny times obit and current text
Unfortunately the current text follows a little too closely the text of the obit from the new york times that the thomas clearly shows was being added w/out prejudicing the nytimes copyright. I nominated it for copyedit and added the obit url. --Haakonsson (talk) 22:57, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Propose moving to John Sherman Cooper
Unless someone can provide a persuasive reason not to make this change, I intend to move this article to John Sherman Cooper. The reason is very simple: I am old enough to remember his service in the Senate, and the plain fact is that he was always referred to as "John Sherman Cooper" - NOT as "John S. Cooper". [edit] Deleted False Statement
I deleted the following:
"Refusing to follow the Republican Party's non-support for civil rights,"
If one goes to the Wikipedia page on the 1964 Civil Rights Act, they will find a breakdown of the final vote on the 1964 CRA, by political party. Over 80% of Senate and House Republicans voted FOR the CRA, whereas only about two out of three Democrats in both chambers voted for it. MindBodySoul (talk) 07:24, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
