I thought Steel might have earned his PhD through the Logic Group at Berkeley, rather than the Math department at Berkeley. Only asking because the article explicitly states his phd was in math. (it was clearly mathematical in any case.) Rdore 19:58, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
You're right -- he was in the logic group, not the math department. I wonder if has some kind of record for most successful post-War mathematician with no math degree (his first degree's in Philosophy). [[User:Booth.adam|Booth.adam] 14:52 27 Novemeber 2006.
