I'm not sure how this should be changed, but the phrasing in this article seems to suggest that Dos Passos's father lived and worked in Chicago and that Dos Passos attended school there as a child; in fact Dos Passos was born in Chicago because it was so far away from his father's home in New York. Dos Passos was an illegitimate child, and although his father's money did finance an exceptional education it was done in Europe rather than Chicago prior to his enrollment in the Choate school.
