[edit] Height

Regarding his 'height', the figures are the same as Douglas Adam's, any coicindence/typos?

I believe he is a Santa Barbara resident part of the year

Why did he decline the CBE?

Meursault2004 21:13, 8 Mar 2004 (UTC)

The same reason as everybody else who rejects those honours I suppose, I don't think anyone was shocked. Rje 14:34, Apr 15, 2005 (UTC)
... and that is? Meursault2004 17:39, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

"Cleese declined the British honour of Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE)" Both? It was either a CBE or an OBE. I think that needs correcting and those links a bit of sorting out Stephenjh 05:39, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Filmography is far more extensive than given here.

Suggest a possible split out of his "business training" films, at some stage.

Any more information on John Cleese?

Cleese did a short sketch in a danish television show - "Casper og Mandrilaftalen" (http://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casper_og_Mandrilaftalen) introducing the "purple gunrack of love"

Great! though may I just say that perhaps Fawlty Towers deserves a mention in the opening paragraph?!

Not to base him around that, but just a suggestion, it was after all perhaps his most critically acclaimed individual masterpiece when he is allowed to take much if not the vast majority of the writing credit. Also, may I just say, John Cleese is the Lord our God. Thats an infinite fact. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.65.242.154 (talk) 13:36, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] John Cleese.

What is he doing now?

He lives not in Santa Barbara, but in the hills above it. He lives in Montecito, California. I actually stayed overnight in the house right next door to him. His neighbor says that he is really cool.

Whereabouts should the fact that he had a voice acting part in BioWare's Jade Empire go? Filmogragphy? 16:36, 27 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] true or funny vandalism?

where he was expelled for a humourous defacing of school grounds - he used painted footsteps to suggest that the statue of General Haig had got down of his stand and gone to the toilet.

same possible vandalism in Clifton College's page

[edit] filmography

lacks his presence in the harry potter movies?60.230.199.237 08:57, 23 September 2005 (UTC) he was also in rat race but that wasn't added —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.180.219.35 (talk) 04:02, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Clinical Depression?

I removed the Category:People diagnosed with clinical depression.

I found no reference to depression in the Article, much less a clinical diagnosis of one.

he was also in rat race but that wasn't added

[edit] John Cleese in TBS ads?

On TBS's ads "to determine what's funny", John Cleese is the guy in the lab coat throwing oranges at the guy in underwear, is he not? I am sure that was him, if it wasn't then it was his twin.

Yes, I believe that was John Cleese. Rshu 01:25, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "comic"

"Many considered this to be the perfect tribute to his friend and comic partner." - when talking about the Chapman eulogy. In my mind, "comic" means "funny". As in, "the comic escapades of Bruno McFly". Should this be changed to "comedic"? Ah, bollocks, I'll do it anyway, if anybody wants to revert it, they can. riana 10:50, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Other use of the "Kim Bread" alias

It may be worth noting that when Cleese agreed to appear in City of Death, he asked the Radio Times to be credited as Kim Bread, and they declined. Anyone who knew this also knew that "Kim Bread" in Starship Titanic WAS indeed Cleese (which Adams later admitted anyway). The former story can be found in a couple of books about Doctor Who (but none that I have here with me right now...) --JohnDBuell 21:05, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Institute for Backup Trauma internet commercial

John Cleese appears in this commercial, which can be accessed here: http://www.backuptrauma.com/ It seems to me that this commercial is significant for being the first (only?) commercial to [i]exclusively[/i] make use of the internet as an advertising medium but I'm not qualified to judge this. Should it be included in this article? MCSmarties 15:40, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Books section?

Wouldn't it help to list his two books with Robin Skynner, "The Rectorial Address of John Cleese" and other script books like "The Strange Case of the End of Civilisation As We Know It" and "Faulty Towers", with edtition and ISBN, like we find at Terry Jones' article (or maybe also some of his great articles on comedy) in a separate section after filmography? "Don't want to read the biography? Tough luck!" OK, it's absolutely John Cleese style, but still they would be more obvious for some hasty seeker looking for them in particular. Hoverfish 22:05, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Yes, a bibliography section makes sense. The same counts for Eric Idle since you asked it there too. I already did a (not complete yet I think) bibliography at Michael Palin. Garion96 (talk) 22:48, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

I have tried to find some possible connection of Cleese to the Bedknobs and Broomsticks film (the original book is too old to even consider). I don't find him having done any voices or played and role. I think this doesn't belong in Bibliography or elsewhere in this article. Hoverfish 06:53, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

I couldn't find it either. Therefore, for now, I removed it from the article. Garion96 (talk) 11:14, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
It was added earlier today by an IP address user. Always be suspicious of their entries. Wahkeenah 11:40, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] knowledge of German

John Cleese is quite well-versed in German. Anybody knows where and when he learned it? It's worth mentioning.Hoverfish 17:01, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

Doesn't he speak Russian as well? I'm sure he mentioned it in the commentary for A Fish Called Wanda. I could quite easily be wrong... Eelio 16:47, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 2006 biography entry

Provided that John Cleese has given all kinds of statements to the press, Gazzalon's entry might be correct. Yet I couldn't find the London Times interview to verify. As for the 2007 claim, where does it originate from? Can some more precise citations be given? Hoverfish 20:00, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Well, that was quite an answer! Thank you 80.177.15.26. :) Hoverfish 23:02, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Picture

That shot of Cleese is terrible. Isn't there another "free use" or "fair use" image that could be substituted? What was wrong with the last one? Wally 23:49, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cleese/Cheese?

You can't use everything2 as a reference! Anyway, if JC's father joined the army in 1915, that would mean he was at least 40 when JC was born (far from impossible, but unlikely). Elsewhere, I've heard that it was his grandfather that changed the family name, which the IMDb agrees with ([1]). 213.249.235.86 14:53, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

Michael Palin's Father was 40 when he was born. It wasn't so uncommon in the 40s —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Crestville (talkcontribs) 15:37, 8 February 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Declined knighthood?

I recall reading somewhere that Cleese had declined a knighthood. Can anyone find a source on this? If so, I think it ought to be added to the article. --Saforrest 22:07, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Biography

His biography needs splitting up. At the moment, all information about his life is in one big chunk. It would be good if somebody could split it into sections like "Early Life", "Monty Python" "Film Career" etc. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Aeiou81 (talk • contribs) 20:47, 12 April 2007 (UTC).

[edit] WTF?!

Someone removed the part in the Trivia section where he voiced the TomTom GPS system. Why? I thought it was cool. Also, was he really the first guy to say 'shit' on British TV? That needs some looking into. Curvebill 01:10, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:ImSorryIllReadThatAgainCast2.jpg

The image tagging and rationales in this article are a bit of a shambles, and could lead to some of them being removed. There is no source given for Image:ImSorryIllReadThatAgainCast2.jpg, although at a guess it is a BBC promotional photo. Please could someone with knowledge of the show look into this, or the image is likely to be deleted soon. --♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 18:52, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] titlist

Cleese has been doing titleist ads for years, the note at the end stating "in 2006" is inaccurate. His ads for them go back at least 7 years. 134.53.115.233 11:42, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:SillyWalk.jpg

Image:SillyWalk.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Image

There must be a more recent image we can use. --81.233.196.49 (talk) 21:26, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Cleese and "I Po"

Cleese, in one of his management series of training videos, used the term "I Po" to describe "putting an idea on the table that had just popped into his head, without any ownership, so that it could be discussed without hurting people's feelings". The idea probably originated with De Bono, but I am trying to track down the CLeese film in which it was included. Does anyone know please? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.31.173.2 (talk) 05:01, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Religion

This page has no mention of religion, and it should considering the attention Life of Brian got. In a documentary on it, Cleese says "I'd been confirmed and I'd sat around for some weeks expecting some golden globe to descend on me, and when it didn't I became fairly atheistical-humanitistic." (From The Secret Life of Brian, which can be found on youtube or any video site). I wouldn't know where to put it in the article, but I think it belongs. --Karuna8 (talk) 16:44, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
