According to Alcock and Brown page, 1890 miles (3040 km), not 1980 miles. I've found, that most Internet sites give 1890 BUT the New York Times header said 1980! Where's the error?(http://ngb.chebucto.org/Articles/sjc-alcock-and-brown.shtml) Pibwl 12:01, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)
