[edit] Liatris

Schreber was the author of the genus Liatris. This is a very interesting name, because it has no clear etymology. I suspect it is an eponym, perhaps from Liater, which is a surname, perhaps German, though it is not common. There is, or was, a Liater Institute of Preventive Medicine in the United Kingdom, but I don't see any information about this Liater on the Internet. If anyone finds out anything about an associate or patron of Scrheber's named Liater, Liatro, or something similar, perhaps they could post it on this talk page, or that for Liatris. If anyone knows a good printed reference on Schreber, please post the information here. --Cotinis 14:53, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
