John West (politician)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

John West (born c. 1988) is the current Depute Provost of the City of Aberdeen.[1] He became the youngest person elected as a Local Authority councillor in Scotland on the 3rd of May, 2007 at the age of eighteen with the Scottish National Party. He was elected to Aberdeen City Council by the Hazlehead, Ashley and Queens Cross Ward. West was in attendance at the University of Aberdeen studying law, but left the course after a year of study.[citation needed]

His election to the position of Depute Provost drew both praise and criticism, due to his young age.[citation needed] His older sister, Kirsty West (born c. 1986) is also a SNP politician in Aberdeen elected as councillor for the Hilton/Stockethill area.
