John Wardle (1944- ) is currently the deputy chairman of Manchester City football club, having accepted the post in 2003. He has provided significant funding for the club.
John was a founder of JD Sports, a UK sports clothing retailer, along with David Makin. The company had a reported turnover of £450m in 2004. He resigned from the company in 2005, having sold his shareholding over the previous year. The business is now owned by the Pentland Group.
